Delivering a wheelbarrow filled with 350,000 petition signatures urging the governor and the California Water Resources Control Board to stop the practice of using wastewater from oil drilling to irrigate California's crops, a group of concerned Californians gathered at the State Capitol in Sacramento on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 for a press conference on the North side of the State Capitol before carrying the boxes into the State Capitol building and delivering them to the governor's office. Speakers were Senator Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles), President pro Tempore of the California State Senate, Assemblymember Mika Gatto, nurse practitioner Lisa Hartmayer, Sue Chiang of CEH Healthy Energy of California, and John Fleming, staff scientist at the Center for Biological Diversity. The press conference was organized by Care 2 and the petition signatures were collected by CREDO, Care 2, Food & Water Watch, Center for Biological Diversity, Rootskeeper, Center for Environmental Health, Breast Cancer Action, Center for Food Safety, Courage Campaign, and the Center for Race, Poverty and the Environment..
